Children and teens experience the benefits of yoga at every level of their being. The practice assists with confidence, anxiety, posture and concentration, regardless of the age a child starts, it will be a great support to them throughout their life.

Bookings are open for Term 2 2021.

This term will be 7 weeks - rather than our usual 8 weeks and teens only 6 weeks due to public holiday on May 3.

Our Yoga school is closed for one week 31 May to 6 June

The term will run as a block of 4 classes and then a one week break and then return for a second block of 3 classes. Term commences week of May 3.

Yoga will anchor a child's mind in their body.  The breath and the body teach the mind how to calm down.
Asking a child to use insight and restraint (mental processes) to manage their emotions sets a child up to fail.
Emotions are powerful chemical impulses and it takes time to ride the waves of feeling.

Term commences week of  Monday May 3 2021

12 -15

4.00pm to 5.30pm

At this age of ‘almost grown up’ young people are at the stage of questioning everything and looking for answers to things that don’t make sense anymore. Our focus in teaching this age group is on physical work with a focus on the positive things they can do for their physical health, incorporating back strengthening, belly toning and core strength exercises.  We teach techniques to de-stress, handle their emotions and for getting a good night’s sleep. The classes are adapted to the need of the students depending on what is happening in their life at the time, eg exams. Classes incorporate reflection time on breathing and relaxation work, with group discussion on when, how and why certain practices invoke the parasympathetic nervous system to bring balance and harmony. The emphasis is on personal development, not competition, and they explore and extend their capabilities as their confidence in themselves grows.

6 - 11

We create a safe, inclusive and non-competitive environment to teach the tools for dealing with emotional upsets and mind chatter.  Children are engaged through music, song, drawing and movement. Sessions include breath work and relaxation using visual imagery. At this age children have amazing insight into worldly affairs as well as their own emotions and they participate enthusiastically in the discussions, including exploring options of managing emotional upsets.  Children during this age period begin to doubt themselves and compare themselves to others.  We support them to recognise these feelings and through working with postures that challenge them, a context is created where children build resilience in the face of their fear of failure. Positive reinforcement builds self-esteem and confidence.
