Additionally, students who have been working with Polly for a minimum of 3 years and who have an established personal practice can apply to Polly to become a Trainee. Polly is an accredited teacher trainer with Iyengar Yoga Australia.   To become a trainee, a student must demonstrate their committment to sit for an Introductory level certification. This level of certification allows you to teach as a recognised Iyengar Yoga teacher and make use of the Iyengar Certification Mark. To sit for this assessment, you must have completed at least 300 hours of Teacher Training and 100 hours of assisting, adjusting and teaching students. If you pass this level, you will be awarded a teaching certificate and will be eligible to join the IYA as a Teacher member.

*note  Hours of training and assisting, adjusting etc completed over previous years is counted toward readiness for referral for assessment.  Referral (by Polly) of a trainee for assessment is provided once a trainee demonstrates a capacity to teach and practice at the required level. Many trainees take longer than they anticipate to develop the required capacity, whilst others acheive readiness in a shorter period of time. Hence it is critical to note that readiness to be referred for assessment, is not determined by completing hours of training. "Assessment" is better understood as a ritual rite of passage.

To apply to become a trainee and work with Polly to prepare for Introductory Level Certification with Iyengar Yoga Australia, you will need to demonstrate your committment in the following ways:

  • consistent attendance in Thursday 6.00 - 7.30am 5 week terms
    • your attendance in this class is where your personal practice development can be evidenced by Polly.
  • attendance at all scheduled Sunday teacher development sessions and the December weekend workshop in Woodgate
  • regular (weekly) teaching of students at an introductory level
    • during the year Polly will observe one of your classes and provide feedback
  • holding current teaching insurance

If you are interested to apply for a teacher traineeship with Polly, please email via the school to set up a time to meet with Polly.
